Overall Educational Objectives

Participants will develop a practical understanding of trauma as it relates to manual therapy practice, including CranioSacral Therapy, with attention to historical foundations, contemporary trauma-informed frameworks, ethical considerations, and safe clinical application within professional scope of practice.

Schedule

All sessions will take place on Tuesdays and will begin at 7:00 pm ET.
They will be approximately 90 minutes long.
All registrants will have online video access following each session.
Registrants do not have to attend all sessions live (or any).

Describe the evolution of trauma-related concepts within CranioSacral Therapy.
Identify clinical observations of trauma presentation in nervous system dysregulation and persistent physical symptoms.

Sept 8 at 7 pm ET

Defining Trauma-Informed Care in Manual Therapy Practice

Define trauma-informed care and trauma-specific therapy as it applies to manual therapy practice, including CranioSacral Therapy.
Identify core principles of trauma-informed care, such as safety, respect for client autonomy, recognition of trauma’s impact, pacing, and avoidance of retraumatization
Describe how trauma may be expressed through the body, including autonomic nervous system patterns and tissue responses.

Biopsychosocial Correlates of Trauma Relevant to Manual Therapy

Describe common biological, psychological, and social presentations of trauma encountered in manual therapy settings
Recognize patterns such as altered stress responses, chronic pain, heightened or reduced sensitivity to touch, and challenges with body awareness
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries by recognizing trauma-related responses

Manual Therapy and CranioSacral Therapy within Contemporary Trauma-Informed Care

Utilize common terminology found in contemporary trauma-informed frameworks and apply it appropriately within manual therapy and CranioSacral Therapy practice
Describe how manual therapy, including CranioSacral Therapy, fits within interdisciplinary trauma-informed care models
Articulate the supportive role of hands-on therapies in promoting regulation, resilience, and integration alongside other healthcare approaches

Clinical Applications of Trauma-Informed Manual and CranioSacral Therapy

Identify common clinical presentations in which trauma may be a contributing factor
Apply trauma-informed principles in hands-on practice, including appropriate pacing, consent, and responsiveness to client cues
Understand the importance of ongoing supervision and training when working with trauma related topics in CranioSacral Therapy sessions

Oct 20 at 7 pm ET

Ethics and Professional Responsibility in Trauma-Informed Practice

Identify some common challenges that may arise as a CranioSacral therapist in trauma-related sessions
Implement ethically sound practices that prioritize client safety, autonomy, informed consent, and scope of practice
Recognize when interdisciplinary collaboration or referral is indicated and apply ethical referral practices
Developing resources towards ongoing supervision and consultation to avoid burnout
